Lighthouse Retreat
A special place for making memories with those that we love.
A special place for making memories with those that we love.
Like most of the residents of CB, we enjoy most of our time hanging out downstairs. Listening to the ocean, feeling the breeze, and just letting time pass by are some of our favorite pastimes.
Watch amazing sunsets from the rear deck. We built this deck in 2021 so we could sneak peaks at the Ocean, but we mostly enjoy the sunset, birds, and stars from this vantage point.
Enjoy your breakfasts on the front deck and enjoy watch the barges push through the Intracoastal Waterway. This is an amazing view that is always catching your attention.
Board and card games can be found in the living room cabinet and table. Notice how the table top raises up?
Also, we love puzzles! Feel free to leave your completed artwork on the kitchen island and add to the collection.
All televisions are controlled by a FireTV remote, including volume and power. Local TV can be accessed through the FireTV by selecting Guide on the Live Menu option. For our guests security, accounts are cleared during our regular visits.
Enjoy the fastest and most stable internet on the peninsula!. Internet is provided by SpaceX Starlink Satellite service.
While nobody wants to work on vacation, I am grateful for this quiet area. Secluded in a corner of the 2 Queen bedroom, this area is separated by 2 doors from the main part of the house. High speed Internet and an external monitor will allow you to stay connected. Best of all, by 5 o'clock you will be on the beach!
Lighthouse Retreat sits on a beach access road that is indirectly connected to the highway, and therefore there is not much traffic. The beach is about a 5 minute stroll from the front door, and our neighborhood beach entrance from is near barrel #96. Your car is allowed on the beach, but you will need a yearly permit sticker. Buy at the Big Store, or just have a $10 bill on hand when your are on the beach; the patrol will gladly sell you a sticker.
The rear porch is accessed from the laundry room. Since building the porch, the laundry room is no longer just a chore closet, it is a gateway to paradise!
Our house runs on an anaerobic septic system, and water conservation is appreciated as the tanks can fill up. There is no kitchen disposal as food waste will disrupt the natural process. Please put all food waste, coffee grounds, grease, ... in the trash.
The toilets are low flow. Dispose any paper or plastic products in the lined trash cans. Only single-ply toilet paper and human waste should be flushed.
Thank You for your help in protecting this system!
Please reach us using the contact form at the end of this page if you have an FAQ to add.
Please contact the Vacasa 24-hour support number you were provided. There is a team of local support that will be able to assist you. Any improvements, inconveniences, or issues will get back to us, the owners so we can make your current and future visits more and more comfortable.
The Big Store has Everything. Their motto is, "if we don't have it, you probably don't need it". It's true, I have better luck at the Big Store than I have at Walmart. But here are a few suggestions:
- Beef, chicken and pork is probably best brought in from your home store or butcher
- Produce, drinks, food staples, and dry goods are best from the Big Store.
- Buy your seafood at a local market

Lorenzo at American Seafood is our personal favorite for Shrimp and Flounder.
Address: 1235 Canal W, Crystal Beach, TX 77650 (409) 392-8175
JB's down at the end of the street is also good, especially for oysters.

Call before you head out, typically they get shrimp in daily at 3pm.
Surf fishing is a blast if you are willing to walk out far enough before you cast your bait. The Big Store sells frozen squid, which will usually land you a black drum, a small shark, or at least several Hard Heads.
https://www.latitude29surfshop.com/ offers kayak rentals, and you can head out to one of the ramps near Stingaree on the bay side for a relaxing day of fishing. Live shrimp can be purchased at the Marina if you get up early enough, but I usually have better luck at DJ's Bait (1288 Canal E). Trout, Flounder, and Redfish are plentiful.
Your safety is our #1 concern. The ocean changes every day and should not be feared, but respected. Always be aware of riptides and those in your group that are too far from shore. Marine life is plentiful, and certain times of the year we do have Jelly Fish; during these times is a good idea to bring a small container of white vinegar to the beach for the rare occasion of contact. Sting rays are very docile, but if stepped on, they can barb you; to avoid, just get in the habit of shuffling your feet when you are out in the ocean and you will not get hurt.
What about sharks? Honestly, I have not heard of any issues in our years on this beach, nor have I ever seen one apart from fishing 200 yards out. The ones we do catch are very small, and are not a concern for humans. But stay aware and enjoy the beauty of this amazing ecosystem.
A propane Weber Genesis II 4 burner grill is on site.
This is the hangout! Enjoy a drink on the patio watching the boats pass by and take pictures of the sunset over Galveston Bay. When you are ready to eat, head upstairs and enjoy amazing seafood and steaks with a view. And if you do not feel like heading home, go downstairs to DownUnder and enjoy live music and dancing! (Tip: Order half and half Margaritas, blend of frozen and on-the-rocks forms the perfect slushy)
OK, this is the perfect tex-mex restaurant that is loaded with seafood! Perhaps the best crawfish in Texas, and their enchiladas and steak are killer! They too have an afterhours spot, located upstairs with pool tables and karaoke.
Did you wake up hungry? G's is probably the best breakfast around. While I am personally not a fan of their other offerings, they do breakfast right! Grab a large burrito or a breakfast sandwich and you will be ready for the day. Tip: call ahead before you head out (409) 684-9560 and surprise the rest of your crew.
Do you have questions about our house or have something to report?
Send us a message, and we will get back to you soon!
